White Marble

Upon his neck he wears a cross
Made of shiny white marble
And it has three dents from where he dropped it
And lost the direction in his life
Once when he was a young boy
And his mother abandoned him
She said son I gotta leave now
But your father will take you in
She said, take your cross and hold it tight
Through the rain and stormy weather
It will keep you safe through the night
While your world is closing tight
Once again, when he was a young man
His friend had a story to tell
Drugs kept him down on the low end
Made his life a living hell
Then one day he gave up on us
And said his life was through
And he took the bridge off of devil's road
Oh Lord what am I gonna do
Now he's a loving dad
With a son he loves so much
How he loves his smiling face
And that warm baby's touch
But one day the doctor said
His son was falling from grace
And tears rolled down his fateful cheek
As another death fell upon his face
